Washington, DC – The National Women’s Political Caucus (NWPC) has endorsed Jane Mitakides, a candidate for U.S. Congress in Ohio’s District 3.
Mitakides is running as a Democratic challenger who promises real change with real solutions for the Dayton-based Congressional district. In a district that Governor Ted Strickland won with 54% of the vote in 2006; Mitakides is poised for victory in one of the key swing districts of the 2008 election cycle.
“Jane Mitakides is the perfect candidate for this district” said Lulu Flores, President of NWPC, “She is clearly the most qualified and experienced candidate in this race and NWPC is confident that she will be an excellent member of Congress for the citizens of District 3 in Ohio."
A native Daytonian, Mitakides has hit the ground running. Her long record of leadership in the community has provided her with an abundance of grassroots support from the citizens in her district. Her service as a board member of St. Elizabeth Hospital, Women in Leadership, and as a life member of the Dayton Chapter of the NAACP exemplify her commitment to the quality of life in her community.
This grassroots support for Mitakides is equally evident in her ability to raise funds for this race. She has out-raised her opponent in the last two reporting periods with the strong majority of her funds coming from District 3 supporters.
Not only is Mitakides a community leader, she is also a successful local businesswoman who knows what it takes to bring good jobs into the community and keep them there. Her experience as a successful businesswoman specializing in strategic communications and investor relations makes her uniquely aware of the economic difficulties facing the people she is running to represent. As Congresswoman for this district, she will offer real solutions to affect positive economic change for our country.
“If elected, she will champion the values of female empowerment,” Flores says. “She has been active locally on behalf of women’s causes and women’s issues. Nationally, Mitakides was a founding member of both the Women's Council of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Women’s Leadership council”.
The NWPC is a non-partisan grassroots organization dedicated to recruiting and supporting women candidates for elected and appointed offices at all levels of government.
